JOHN DAY FOSSIL BEDS NATIONAL Monument
straddles central and eastern Oregon,
offering a portfolio of millions of years of geology history
embellished by the effects of tumultuous weather.
The 14,000-acres natural exhibit is divided into three units:
Clarno, Sheep Rock, and the stunning Painted Hills.
The 3,132-acres Painted Hills unit is not a fly-by-night creation.
It took over 33 million years to get things just right.
Volcanic ash deposits, changes in ancient soils and vegetation,
and a drastic cooling all contributed to a color palette
that varies with the light.
To see the hills at their best,
visit in the late afternoon when the low light plays off the hills.
Come in April and May,
the wildflower season adds another layer to the landscape.

We spent some time at the Thomas Condon Palentology Center,
which located at the Sheep Rock Unit.
There is an exhibit of fossils and
people there are more than happy
to share further information with you.
By the time we were there, Ms J. was working on a fossil -
a beaver aged over 30million years.
She was so kind to show us her work, sharing the joy.
ps: pardon, les photos are a bit out of focus... Salute to people who put their best efforts at work.
For us to know more about our past..
And for us to know to plan a better future...
To learn to cherish, preserved and...
learn to love...
our Mother Earth.
Do not take things for granted...
Please give a little care...
This place really worth paying a visit!
Somehow, when I look at this large area...
A funny imagination appeared...
....dinosaurs...
Special thanks to the person who invented digital camera as well...
We took over hundreds of photos!
Only selected ones loaded up here...
You're beautiful....
On our way home...
Bypass this weird looking tree....
We thought they are either crows or ravens...
Look closer...
Hmm...
Shoes, sneakers...
No kidding!
Reason...unknown.
